Copenhagen Treaty is Open Global Government

U.N. plans for a new ‘government’ are scary.

We can only hope that world leaders will do nothing more than enjoy a pleasant bicycle ride around the charming streets of Copenhagen come December. For if they actually manage to wring out an agreement based on the current draft text of the Copenhagen climate-change treaty, the world is in for some nasty surprises. Draft text, you say? If you haven’t heard about it, that’s because none of our otherwise talkative political leaders have bothered to tell us what the drafters have already cobbled together for leaders to consider. And neither have the media.

Enter Lord Christopher Monckton. The former adviser to Margaret Thatcher gave an address at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, earlier this month that made quite a splash. For the first time, the public heard about the 181 pages, dated Sept. 15, that comprise the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change—a rough draft of what could be signed come December.

So far there have been more than a million hits on the YouTube post of his address. It deserves millions more because Lord Monckton warns that the aim of the Copenhagen draft treaty is to set up a transnational “government” on a scale the world has never before seen.

The “scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention” that starts on page 18 contains the provision for a “government.” The aim is to give a new as yet unnamed U.N. body the power to directly intervene in the financial, economic, tax and environmental affairs of all the nations that sign the Copenhagen treaty.

The reason for the power grab is clear enough: Clause after complicated clause of the draft treaty requires developed countries to pay an “adaptation debt” to developing countries to supposedly support climate change mitigation. Clause 33 on page 39 says that “by 2020 the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be [at least $67 billion] or [in the range of $70 billion to $140 billion per year].”

And how will developed countries be slugged to provide for this financial flow to the developing world? The draft text sets out various alternatives, including option seven on page 135, which provides for “a [global] levy of 2 per cent on international financial market [monetary] transactions to Annex I Parties.” Annex 1 countries are industrialized countries, which include among others the U.S., Australia, Britain and Canada.

To be sure, countries that sign international treaties always cede powers to a U.N. body responsible for implementing treaty obligations. But the difference is that this treaty appears to have been subject to unusual attempts to conceal its convoluted contents. And apart from the difficulty of trying to decipher the U.N. verbiage, there are plenty of draft clauses described as “alternatives” and “options” that should raise the ire of free and democratic countries concerned about preserving their sovereignty.

Lord Monckton himself only became aware of the extraordinary powers to be vested in this new world government when a friend found an obscure U.N. Web site and searched through several layers of hyperlinks before discovering a document that isn’t even called the draft “treaty.” Instead, it’s labelled a “Note by the Secretariat.”

Interviewed by broadcaster Alan Jones on Sydney radio Monday, Lord Monckton said “this is the first time I’ve ever seen any transnational treaty referring to a new body to be set up under that treaty as a ‘government.’ But it’s the powers that are going to be given to this entirely unelected government that are so frightening.” He added: “The sheer ambition of this new world government is enormous right from the start—that’s even before it starts accreting powers to itself in the way that these entities inevitably always do.”

Critics have admonished Lord Monckton for his colorful language. He has certainly been vigorous. In his exposé of the draft Copenhagen treaty in St. Paul, he warned Americans that “in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy and your prosperity away forever.” Yet his critics fail to deal with the substance of what he says.

Ask yourself this question: Given that our political leaders spend hundreds of hours talking about climate change and the need for a global consensus in Copenhagen, why have none of them talked openly about the details of this draft climate-change treaty? After all, the final treaty will bind signatories for years to come. What exactly are they hiding? Thanks to Lord Monckton we now know something of their plans.

Janos Pasztor, director of the Secretary-General’s Climate Change Support Team, told reporters in New York Monday that with the U.S. Congress yet to pass a climate-change bill, a global climate-change treaty is now an unlikely outcome in Copenhagen. Let’s hope he is right. And thank you, America.

US deficit forecast to be four times last year’s record

Stimulus spending is one reason. Tax revenues also drop during a recession.

To put some context on a new estimate that puts this year’s federal deficit at $1.8 trillion, consider this: That amount had never been spent by the federal government in a single year until 2000, let alone borrowed.

That’s right. As the decade began, the US government spent $1.8 trillion in a year for the first time. Now it’s poised to spend that much in excess of its tax revenues.

The Treasury released the latest figures Wednesday, showing spending of about $3 trillion in the past 10 months, and revenues of only $1.74 trillion.

With two months to go in the fiscal calendar, the Obama administration is projecting that the imbalance will end up totaling $1.84 trillion, more than four times last year’s record-high. The monthly deficit for July, also reported this week, came in a bit above what economists had expected.

The record red ink stems from familiar sources. The government is spending prodigiously on stimulus, to lift the economy out of recession, and on rescuing the financial system from a credit crisis. The cost of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan add to the tab.

Meanwhile, in recessions tax revenues tend to fall, and this one is no exception. Government receipts were down about 6 percent in July from a year before.

The good news is that many of these forces are cyclical or temporary. The massive stimulus won’t last forever, and revenues from taxes should rise again when the economy grows healthier.

“We expect this year’s deficit will be … 10.5 percent of GDP [gross domestic product] and next year’s to equal 8.3 percent of GDP as the spending spree and revenue weakness persist into the first year of the recovery,” Merrill Lynch economist Drew Matus wrote in a report last week. The report predicted shrinking deficits after that, but warned that the “the long-term outlook remains poor.”

That’s the bad news, many economists agree. The fiscal position will remain difficult, since baby boomers are already starting to retire in a wave that will grow more costly in coming years.

The soaring deficits have raised worries among foreign owners of US Treasury securities including the Chinese, the largest holder of such debt. President Barack Obama’s economic team sought to reassure the Chinese during high-level talks last month that the administration is committed to reducing the deficits once the current economic and financial crises have been resolved.

The concern, however, is that rates could begin rising if foreigners lose confidence in the government’s ability to manage its debt burden.

In bond markets, prices fell Wednesday after a fairly weak auction of $23 billion in 10-year Treasury notes. The Treasury Department is auctioning a record $75 billion in debt this week.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves opposite its price, rose to 3.75 percent from 3.70 percent ahead of the auction results and 3.67 percent late Tuesday.

The total public debt now stands at $11.6 trillion. Interest payments on the debt cost $452 billion last year, the largest federal spending category after Medicare-Medicaid, Social Security, and national defense.

Ex-IBM Employee reveals TV Abandoned Analog Band to Make Room for RFID Chips

This is old news… but interesting nonethless…

According to a former 31-year IBM employee, the highly-publicized, mandatory switch from analog to digital television is mainly being done to free up analog frequencies and make room for scanners used to read implantable RFID microchips and track people and products throughout the world.

So while the American people, especially those in Texas and other busy border states, have been inundated lately with news reports advising them to hurry and get their expensive passports, “enhanced driver’s licenses,” passport cards and other “chipped” or otherwise trackable identification devices that they are being forced to own, this digital television/RFID connection has been hidden, according to Patrick Redmond.

Redmond, a Canadian, held a variety of jobs at IBM before retiring, including working in the company’s Toronto lab from 1992 to 2007, then in sales support. He has given talks, written a book and produced a DVD on the aggressive, growing use of passive, semi-passive and active RFID chips (Radio Frequency Identification Devices) implanted in new clothing, in items such as Gillette Fusion blades, and in countless other products that become one’s personal belongings. These RFID chips, many of which are as small, or smaller, than the tip of a sharp pencil, also are embedded in all new U.S. passports, some medical cards, a growing number of credit and debit cards and so on. More than two billion of them were sold in 2007.

Whether active, semi-passive or passive, these “transponder chips,” as they’re sometimes called, can be accessed or activated with “readers” that can pick up the unique signal given off by each chip and glean information from it on the identity and whereabouts of the product or person, depending on design and circumstances, as Redmond explained in a little-publicized lecture in Canada last year. AFP just obtained a DVD of his talk.

Noted “Spychips” expert, author and radio host Katherine Albrecht told AMERICAN FREE PRESS that while she’s not totally sure whether there is a rock-solid RFID-DTV link, “The purpose of the switch [to digital] was to free up bandwidth. It’s a pretty wide band, so freeing that up creates a huge swath of frequencies.”

As is generally known, the active chips have an internal power source and antenna; these particular chips emit a constant signal. “This allows the tag to send signals back to the reader, so if I have a RFID chip on me and it has a battery, I can just send a signal to a reader wherever it is,” Redmond stated in the recent lecture, given to the Catholic patriot group known as the Pilgrims of Saint Michael, which also is known for advocating social credit, a dramatic monetary reform plan to end the practice of national governments bringing money into existence by borrowing it, with interest, from private central banks. The group’s publication The Michael Journal advocates having national governments create their own money interest-free. It also covers the RFID issue.

Amid the worst economic recession in generations, Karl Marx, who famously described religion as “the opium of the people”, got a thumbs-up from the Vatican overturning a century of Catholic hostility to his creed.

Marx, who predicted that capitalism would be destroyed by its internal contradictions, has joined Galileo  (HelioCentric Model), Charles Darwin (evolution) and Oscar Wilde (Gay-Bisexual-Pedophile Agenda) on a growing list of historical figures to have undergone an unlikely reappraisal by the Roman Catholic Church, The Times newspaper said today.

The British daily, quoting the Vatican newspaper L’Osservatore Romano, said Marx’s early critiques of capitalism had highlighted the “social alienation” felt by the”large part of humanity” that remained excluded from economic and political decision-making.

Amid signs of recovery in global financial markets, Christian leaders have flayed the capitalist system for displaying a lack of moral values, arguing that ethical debates needs to be given greater prominence.

Georg Sans, a German-born professor of the history of contemporary philosophy at the pontifical Gregorian University, argues that Marx’s work remained especially relevant today as mankind was seeking “a new harmony” (read: New World Order) between its needs and the natural environment.

The report quoted Sans as saying that Marx’s theories may help to explain the enduring issue of income inequality within capitalist societies. Blaming the Communists, he argues that Marx’s intellectual legacy was marred by the misappropriation of his work by the communist regimes of the 20th century.

The Vatican, in a reappraisal of Galileo, last year erected a statue of the great astronomer who was put on trial in 1633 for his observation that the Earth moved around the Sun.

In February a leading Roman church official declared Darwin’s theory of evolution compatible with the Christian faith, and in July L’Osservatore praised Oscar Wilde, the gay playwright, as “a man who behind a mask of amorality asked himself what was just and what was mistaken”.

Two years ago Benedict XVI singled out Marxism as one of the great scourges of the modern age. The Pope’s latest encyclical, Charity in Truth, argued that global capitalism has lost its way and that Church teachings can help to restore economic health by focusing on justice for the weak and closer regulation of the market, the report in the London daily said.  (If  so, then why did Jesus overturn the tables the Money lenders were using in the temple, because the church has no authority over economic issues, and should limit to Spiritual issues)

Professor Sans’s article was first published in La Civiltà Cattolica, a Jesuit paper, which is vetted in advance by the Vatican Secretariat of State. The decision to republish it in the Vatican newspaper gives the unlikely reappraisal of Marx by the Roman Catholic Church added papal endorsement.

God takes it seriously when people worship other gods. A recurring theme throughout the Bible is God’s punishment of Israel for turning away from the Lord to serve other gods.

For they went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them: And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book: And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day. (Deuteronomy 29:26-28 AV)

Who or what are these other gods? They are, in fact, devils. “They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.” (Deuteronomy 32:17 AV)

There is a particular manifestation of the devil which has been almost universally admired. Now, most people do not understand that this being whom they admire and promote is nothing but an attempt by Satan to turn the heart’s of men away from the most high God and toward another god, who is no god all, but is in fact Satan.

This false god, of whom I am referring is none other than Santa Claus. That is right, the jolly old elf is the devil. Allow me to prove the point. It is acknowledged that Santa Claus is in fact an elf. What is an elf? According to Noah Webster’s American Dictionary of the English Language an elf is “a spirit, the night – mar; a ghost, hag or witch. . . . A wondering spirit; a fairy; a hobgoblin.

. . . An evil spirit; a devil.” Conclusion: the beloved Santa Claus is a devil.

By what other name is Santa Claus known? He is called St. Nick. Roman Catholic tradition teaches that Santa Claus is actually based upon a Roman Catholic Bishop named Nicholas. Therefore, one could reasonably conclude that Nick is simply an abbreviated form of Nicholas.

However, many names and terms in the occult and witchcraft have doubled meanings. A trip to the dictionary informs us that Nick is defined as an evil spirit. In fact, the term “Old Nick” in northern mythology actually means “the evil one.” Is it just a coincidence that Santa Claus is called “Old St. Nick?” No it is not. According to Unitarian Minister Rel Davis, who by the way considers Christians bigots and is quite proud of the pagan origins of Santa Claus, had this to say:

In fact, Nicholas was nothing but the ancient Roman God Poseidon in new guise. Poseidon was the god of the sea, possessor of a magic cauldron and capable of calming the sea with his voice. The Teutonic equivalent was called Hold Nickar, king of the nixies. A nixy was a sea nymph, like a mermaid or water fairy. He was the Danish sea-god. The English called him Old Nick and when the Europeans brought their “St. Nicholas” to England, they instantly recognized him as their own. . . .

Today, we think of Old Nick as synonymous with the devil, the Christian anti-Christ. Old Nick is a bad guy. His alter ego, St. Nick, however, is a good guy. Let’s get back to Santa Claus, or Sinter Klaus, the real hero of Christmas. Christian scholars claim that the Dutch “Sinter Klaus” was really Saint Nicholas, and that “Sinter” is Dutch for “saint.” Well, don’t you believe it. The best evidence is that the term was originally “Klaus of the cinders,” that is, the man from the chimney. This explains the color of his clothing (red and white, the color of fire.) The Dutch really weren’t so stupid as to confuse December 5 (St. Nicholas’ day) with December 25 (Yule). Santa Claus never was St. Nicholas. So who was he? Let me quote from a nineteenth century book on nordic mythology, H.A. Grueber’s Myths of Northern Lands, published in 1895. He wrote: Thor was the god of the peasants and the common people. He was represented as an elderly may, jovial and friendly, of heavy build, with a long white beard. His element was the fire, his color red. The rumble and roar of thunder were said to be caused by the rolling of his chariot, for he alone among the gods never rode on horseback but drove in a chariot drawn by two white goats (called Cracker and Gnasher). He was fighting the giants of ice and snow, and thus became the Yule-god. He was said to live in the “Northland” where he had his palace among icebergs. By our pagan forefathers he was considered as the cheerful and friendly god, never harming the humans but rather helping and protecting them. The fireplace in every home was especially sacred to him, and he was said to come down through the chimney into his element, the fire. Every Yule, the good god Thor would visit every home with an altar to him (i.e., every home with a fireplace!) and bring gifts to children, who would put out their sabots (wooden shoes) the night before. Good children would receive gifts of fruit, candy and pieces of coal to burn in the fireplace.¹⁵¹

There you have it, straight from a pagan minister, who is against Christ. Rel Davis is perfectly willing to admit and is proud of the fact that Santa Claus is truly a pagan god, which makes Santa Claus nothing but a devil in disguise. By the way Rel Davis, is the National Executive Secretary of the National Keep Christ Out of X-mas Committee, which he describes in his web site as “A National Committee to Counter the Bigots Who Want To Sow Discord Among Peoples –

Since 1984!” He is another of the deluded souls who has confused Catholicism, in all its manifestations, with true Christianity. While Davis admits he is against Christ and Christians, he is actually helping Christians by revealing the true devilish origins of X-mas and Santa Claus.

Now, the devil desires to be have the power of and be worshiped as the most High God. “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” (Isaiah 14:14 AV) Satan never will be like the most high God, however, he will attempt to masquerade as God. He can even transform himself into an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14. Satan has blasphemously given Santa the attributes of God. For example:

1. God is omniscient (all knowing). “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.” (Psalms 147:5 AV) “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3. See also, Psalms 33:13-14.
   • Santa Claus is acclaimed to also have the ability to see you when you are good or bad, “so be good for goodness sake.” The children know that they have not really been good, yet they receive gifts anyway. They conclude that Santa Claus is not very good at watching them. Later when they are told that Jesus can see them at all times, they will remember that they were told the same thing about Santa Claus and they will know that he couldn’t really see them, otherwise they would not have received their X-mas gifts. So maybe Jesus can’t really see them either.
2. The Lord God is omnipotent (all powerful). “Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:” (Jeremiah 32:17 AV) “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37 AV) See also, Revelation 19:6; Hebrews 4:13; 1 John 3:20 ; Job 42:2.
   • Santa Claus is able to deliver toys to everyone in the world in one night.
3. God is omnipresent (everywhere at the same time). “Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.” Jeremiah 23:24. See also, Psalms 139:7-12; John 3:13.
   • Santa Claus sees you when you are awake or asleep.
4. God is eternal, he always was and always will be. Deuteronomy 33:27; Psalms 90:2, 93:2, 145:13; Isaiah 24:5.
   • Santa Claus lives forever
5. God judges you according to your works, whether they be good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelations 20:12; Matthew 25:31-46.
   • Santa Claus judges you according to whether you have been good or bad
6. God’s hair and head are white like wool, as white as snow. Revelation 1:14; Daniel 7:9.
   • Santa Clause has white hair.

George W. Bush – President Jacques Chirac – Gog and Magog and bible prophecies

Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.

Honest. This isn’t a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.

Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their “common faith” (Christianity) and told him:

“Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East. … The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled. … This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”

This bizarre — seemingly deranged — episode happened while the White House was assembling its “coalition of the willing” to unleash the Iraq invasion. Chirac says he was boggled by Bush’s call, and “wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs.”

After the 2003 call, the puzzled French leader didn’t comply with Bush’s request. Instead, his staff asked Thomas Romer, a theologian at the University of Lausanne, to analyze the weird appeal. Dr. Romer explained that the Old Testament book of Ezekiel contains two chapters (38 and 39) in which God rages against Gog and Magog, sinister and mysterious forces menacing Israel. Jehovah vows to smite them savagely, to “turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,” and slaughter them ruthlessly. In the New Testament, the mystical book of Revelation envisions Gog and Magog gathering nations for battle, “and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.”

In 2007, Dr. Romer recounted Bush’s strange behavior in Lausanne University’s review, . A French-language Swiss newspaper, Le Matin Dimanche, printed a sarcastic account titled: “When President George W. Bush saw the prophesies of the Bible coming to pass.” France’s La Liberte likewise spoofed it under the headline, “A small scoop on Bush, Chirac, God, Gog and Magog.” But other news media missed the amazing report.

Subsequently, ex-President Chirac confirmed the nutty event in a long interview with French journalist Jean-Claude Maurice, who tells the tale in his new book, “Si Vous le Répétez, Je Démentirai” (“If You Repeat it, I Will Deny”), released in March by the publisher Plon.

Oddly, mainstream media are ignoring this alarming revelation that Bush may have been half-cracked when he started his Iraq war. As far as we can learn, our Charleston Gazette is the only U.S. newspaper to report it so far. Canada’s Toronto Star recounted the story, calling it a “stranger-than-fiction disclosure … which suggests that apocalyptic fervor may have held sway within the walls of the White House.” Fortunately, online commentary sites are spreading the news, filling the press void.

The French revelation jibes with other known aspects of Bush’s renowned evangelical certitude. For example, a few months after his phone call to Chirac, Bush attended a 2003 summit in Egypt. The Palestinian foreign minister later said the American president told him he was “on a mission from God” to defeat Iraq. At that time, the White House called this claim “absurd.”

Recently, GQ magazine revealed that former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld attached warlike Bible verses and Iraq battle photos to war reports he hand-delivered to Bush. One declared: “Put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”

It’s awkward to say openly, but now-departed President Bush is a religious crackpot, an ex-drunk of small intellect who “got saved.” He never should have been entrusted with power to start wars.

For six years, Americans really haven’t known why he launched the unnecessary Iraq attack. Official pretexts turned out to be baseless. Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, after all, and wasn’t in league with terrorists, as the White House alleged. Collapse of his asserted reasons led to speculation about hidden motives: Was the invasion loosed to gain control of Iraq’s oil — or to protect Israel — or to complete Bush’s father’s old vendetta against the late dictator Saddam Hussein? Nobody ever found an answer.

Now, added to the other suspicions, comes the goofy possibility that arcane, supernatural Bible prophecies were a factor. This casts an ominous pall over the needless war that has killed more than 4,000 young Americans and cost U.S. taxpayers perhaps $1 trillion.

For six years, Americans really haven’t known why he launched the unnecessary Iraq attack. Official pretexts turned out to be baseless. Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, after all, and wasn’t in league with terrorists, as the White House alleged. Collapse of his asserted reasons led to speculation about hidden motives: Was the invasion loosed to gain control of Iraq’s oil — or to protect Israel — or to complete Bush’s father’s old vendetta against the late dictator Saddam Hussein? Nobody ever found an answer.

Now, added to the other suspicions, comes the goofy possibility that arcane, supernatural Bible prophecies were a factor. This casts an ominous pall over the needless war that has killed more than 4,000 young Americans and cost U.S. taxpayers perhaps $1 trillion.

Exposed – The Swine Flu Hoax

The alarm has been sounded. Politicians, pharmaceutical executives and media conglomerates would have us believe that a 1918-style pandemic is a real threat. The 1918 pandemic, however, evolved out of conditions unique to World War I, for four specific reasons.

Why 2009 is Not 1918

First, World War I was characterized by millions of troops living in waterlogged trenches along the Western Front. This war zone became fertile ground for an opportunistic virus, as medical literature reveals:

“…a landscape that was contaminated with respiratory irritants such as chlorine and phosgene, and characterized by stress and overcrowding, the partial starvation in civilians, and the opportunity for rapid ‘passage’ of influenza in young soldiers would have provided the opportunity for multiple but small mutational charges throughout the viral genome.”

Second, the war witnessed the growth of industrial-scale military camps and embarkation ports, such as Etaples in France, enabling the flu virus to enter into another phase of accelerated mutation. On any given day, Etaples was a makeshift city of 100,000 troops from around the British Empire and its former dominions. These soldiers concentrated into unsanitary barracks, tents and mess halls.

Today, many cities and nations have dense concentrations of people; none of these, however, are geographically isolated under the conditions of trench warfare and World War I-style deployments. Of course, there are smaller, sub-populations of people in prisons (prone to multi-drug resistant tuberculosis), in military barracks (prone to respiratory pathogens and meningococcal infections) and on cruise ships (prone to the Norovisus) – all proof of the connection between human confinement on the one hand and infectious disease on the other.

Third, after the war, ships such as the USS Alaskan became floating Petri dishes. Thousands of soldiers were packed like sardines for the long voyage home, allowing the virus to reverberate within hermetically-sealed units.

Fourth, returning troops were stuffed into boxcars for the train trip back to military bases, where they infected new recruits. Later, it was documented that Army regiments whose barracks allowed only 45 square feet per soldier had a flu incidence up to ten times that of regiments afforded 78 square feet per man.

The 1918 flu virus became pandemic because, during World War I, the normal host-pathogen relationship was abandoned when millions of young men crowded into geographical confinement. In World War I, a flu virus was presented with a seemingly limitless number of hosts – almost all young, male, and with compromised immune systems. Unconstrained and unchecked by the usual habits of human behavior, the virus went rogue.

Flu viruses are smart, but they are not suicidal: if the host becomes extinct the virus will become extinct too. The evolutionary strategy, from the virus’s perspective, is to stay one step ahead of the immune systems of both humans and animals – but not two steps ahead. The flu virus aims to infect and reproduce without killing a critical mass of the hosts, of the herd, so the virus’s virulence is ameliorated after it becomes fatal for people on the margins of the host population – the weak and the elderly. World War I disrupted this synchronized, co-evolutionary relationship between flu viruses and human populations.

No flu since 1918 has been strong enough to produce, in millions of people, a “cytokine storm,” which is an immunological over-reaction leading to pulmonary edema (the lungs filling with fluid) – the curse of those with the strongest immune systems, normally between 20 and 40 years of age.

In normal flu pandemics, even in severe ones, the flu virus kills a portion of the weak and elderly. This appears to be the case in 1837 for Germany and in 1890 for Russia in 1890, though reliable medical evidence is scarce. It was certainly true for the Asian flu of 1957 and the Hong Kong flu of 1968, neither of which were significantly fatal for young adults. The flu 1976-1977 has been exposed as a boondoggle, a fraud, with far more people dying of the vaccine than from the flu itself.

Indeed, 1918 was an aberration. Since then, no flu has scythed away so many people: some 500,000 Americans and anywhere between 25 – 50 million people worldwide in three waves: first in March, then in August (the deadliest wave), and in then again in November of 1918, lasting into the spring of 1919.

The origins of the 1918 pandemic can be traced back to the trenches of the Western Front in 1915, 1916, and 1917 – to the world’s first large-scale industrial and international war. There was no other cause: If WWI had not been fought, it is inconceivable that the 1918 flu pandemic would have been so severe. Today, in 2009, absent the conditions of WWI, it is preposterous for political and medical authorities to claim that the swine flu is a menace to society.

The Mysterious Origins of the H1N1 “Swine Flu” Virus

If the current H1N1 swine flu virus does become abnormally lethal, there would be three leading explanations: first, that the virus was accidentally released, or escaped, from a laboratory; second, that a disgruntled lab employee unleashed the virus (as happened, according to the official version of events, with the 2001 anthrax attack); or third, that a group, corporation or government agency intentionally released the virus in the interests of profit and power.

Each of the three scenarios represents a plausible explanation should the swine virus become lethal. After all, the 1918 flu virus was dead and buried – until, that is, scientists unearthed a lead coffin to obtain a biopsy of the corpse it contained. Later, researchers similarly disturbed an Inuit woman buried under permafrost.

The US Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, with a scientist from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, then began to reconstruct the 1918 Spanish flu. Had Iran or North Korea engaged in Frankenstein experiments (complete with ransacking graves) to reverse engineer the 1918 virus the US and the UK would have gone ballistic at the UN Security Council.

Interestingly, numerous doctors and scientists suspect that the swine flu virus was cultured in a laboratory. A mainstream Australian virologist, Adrian Gibbs – who was one of the first to analyze the genetic properties of the 2009 swine flu – believes that scientists accidentally created the H1N1 virus while producing vaccines. And Dr. John Carlo, Dallas Co. Medical Director, “This strain of swine influenza that’s been cultured in a laboratory is something that’s not been seen anywhere actually in the United States and the world, so this is actually a new strain of influenza that’s been identified.” Because of this, the 2009 swine flu virus – which has yet to be detected in any animals – has a rather suspicious pedigree.

The Propaganda Campaign

Across the mainstream media, reports announce one swine flu death after another (even though ordinary flu kills about 35,000 Americans each year). Upon closer scrutiny of what passes for journalism, the victims have “underlying health problems,” or “a common underlying health condition,” or “significant medical conditions.”

One news headline even blared: “Swine flu mother dies after giving birth, leaving her premature baby fighting for life,” and only later, buried deep in the story underneath, did it explain that she had “other medical problems” which included being confined to a wheelchair because of a serious car accident.

Citizens the world over are increasingly skeptical of hyped headlines followed by smaller-print caveats. They are uneasy with the effort to create “doublethink” – a term coined by George Orwell in 1984 and a reference to holding two contradictory ideas in one’s mind simultaneously, paralyzing critical thought.

The media has never been in the habit of reporting the cases of people who, for no known reason, die of the flu. Out of the 35,000 Americans who die each year from flu-related illnesses, some are bound to be relatively young and healthy. It happens. This year, however, their stories are front-page news.

More recently, news reports now claim that the H1N1 swine flu can affect people in the lungs and lead to pneumonia. This, however, is what separates the flu from the common cold in the first place; and this is why tens of thousands of elderly people die of flu-related symptoms each year. Fox News even claimed that “this one morphs and mutates and comes back in different ways…,” (like all flu viruses). In short, the media now uses the flu’s own ordinary symptoms to fuel fear.

Fortunately, a growing wave of online media challenges the propaganda. Back in 1976, there were no rival voices, and the Center for Disease Control’s manipulative television commercials dominated the airwaves. Fortunately, as a testament to official shamelessness, these videos are now archived and searchable on the Internet under the title of “1976 Swine Flu Propaganda.”

Now, like then, the US government’s pandemic policy alternates between the ridiculous and the repugnant. The government’s flu website is revealing.

First, the historical section on the 1918 virus is intellectually dishonest, making absolutely no link between the unique conditions of World War I and the flu pandemic; instead, the site propagates the erroneous notion that this virus came out of the blue.

Second, the site announces an absurd American Idol-style video contest: “Create a Video About Preventing or Dealing With the Flu & Be Eligible to Win $2500 Cash!” (Congress has earmarked 8 billion dollars for swine flu prevention and can only offer $ 2,500 to the proles – or, rather, to the one prole who, rising above mediocrity, best parrots the Party Line.)

And third, the site encourages the use of Twitter to “stay informed…” There is something mildly disturbing about the US federal government promoting Twitter as a form of resistance to foreign authoritarianism, while, simultaneously, using social networking to further federalize and protect the abuse of power at home.

1976 + 1984 = 2009

In sum, it appears that the 2009 swine flu pandemic will not be 1918. It might be a 1976-style hoax, however, serving profit and power – with a bit of Orwell’s 1984 thrown in for good measure.

President John F.Kennedy, The Federal Reserve And Executive Order 11110

On June 4, 1963, a little known attempt was made to strip the Federal Reserve Bank of its power to loan money to the government at interest. On that day President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order No. 11110 that returned to the U.S. government the power to issue currency, without going through the Federal Reserve. Mr. Kennedy’s order gave the Treasury the power “to issue silver certificates against any silver bullion, silver, or standard silver dollars in the Treasury.” This meant that for every ounce of silver in the U.S. Treasury’s vault, the government could introduce new money into circulation. In all, Kennedy brought nearly $4.3 billion in U.S. notes into circulation. The ramifications of this bill are enormous.

With the stroke of a pen, Mr. Kennedy was on his way to putting the Federal Reserve Bank of New York out of business. If enough of these silver certificats were to come into circulation they would have eliminated the demand for Federal Reserve notes. This is because the silver certificates are backed by silver and the Federal Reserve notes are not backed by anything. Executive Order 11110 could have prevented the national debt from reaching its current level, because it would have given the gevernment the ability to repay its debt without going to the Federal Reserve and being charged interest in order to create the new money. Executive Order 11110 gave the U.S. the ability to create its own money backed by silver.

After Mr. Kennedy was assassinated just five months later, no more silver certificates were issued. The Final Call has learned that the Executive Order was never repealed by any U.S. President through an Executive Order and is still valid. Why then has no president utilized it? Virtually all of the nearly $6 trillion in debt has been created since 1963, and if a U.S. president had utilized Executive Order 11110 the debt would be nowhere near the current level. Perhaps the assassination of JFK was a warning to future presidents who would think to eliminate the U.S. debt by eliminating the Federal Reserve’s control over the creation of money. Mr. Kennedy challenged the government of money by challenging the two most successful vehicles that have ever been used to drive up debt – war and the creation of money by a privately-owned central bank. His efforts to have all troops out of Vietnam by 1965 and Executive Order 11110 would have severely cut into the profits and control of the New York banking establishment. As America’s debt reaches unbearable levels and a conflict emerges in Bosnia that will further increase America’s debt, one is force to ask, will President Clinton have the courage to consider utilizing Executive Order 11110 and, ifso, is he willing to pay the ultimate price for doing so?

INTERVIEW WITH EPIDEMIOLOGIST TOM JEFFERSON

The world has been gripped with fears of swine flu in recent weeks. In an interview with SPIEGEL, epidemiologist Tom Jefferson speaks about dangerous fear-mongering, misguided, money-driven research and why we should all be washing our hands a lot more often.

SPIEGEL: Mr. Jefferson, the world is living in fear of swine flu. And some predict that, by next winter, one-third of the world’s population might be infected. Are you personally worried? Are you and your family taking any precautions?

Tom Jefferson: I wash my hands very often — and it’s not all because of swine flu. That’s probably the most effective precaution there is against all respiratory viruses, and the majority of gastrointestinal viruses and germs as well.

SPIEGEL: Do you consider the swine flu to be particularly worrisome?

Jefferson : It’s true that influenza viruses are unpredictable, so it does call for a certain degree of caution. But one of the extraordinary features of this influenza — and the whole influenza saga — is that there are some people who make predictions year after year, and they get worse and worse. None of them so far have come about, and these people are still there making these predictions. For example, what happened with the bird flu, which was supposed to kill us all? Nothing. But that doesn’t stop these people from always making their predictions. Sometimes you get the feeling that there is a whole industry almost waiting for a pandemic to occur.

SPIEGEL: Who do you mean? The World Health Organization (WHO)?

Jefferson: The WHO and public health officials, virologists and the pharmaceutical companies. They’ve built this machine around the impending pandemic. And there’s a lot of money involved, and influence, and careers, and entire institutions! And all it took was one of these influenza viruses to mutate to start the machine grinding.

SPIEGEL: On your Italian homepage, there is a “pandemic countdown” that expires on April 1. Don’t you think the situation calls for just a bit more seriousness?

Jefferson: I’m just using it ironically to expose the false certainty that we are fed. Will one-third of the world’s population get swine flu? Nobody can say for sure right now. For now, at least, I don’t really see any fundamental difference, no difference in the definition between this and a normal flu epidemic. Swine flu could have even stayed unnoticed if it had been caused by some unknown virus rather than an influenza virus.

SPIEGEL: Do you think the WHO declared a pandemic prematurely?

Jefferson: Don’t you think there’s something noteworthy about the fact that the WHO has changed its definition of pandemic? The old definition was a new virus, which went around quickly, for which you didn’t have immunity, and which created a high morbidity and mortality rate. Now the last two have been dropped, and that’s how swine flu has been categorized as a pandemic.

SPIEGEL: But, year after year, 10,000-30,000 people in Germany alone die from influenza. In the Western world, influenza is the most deadly infectious disease there is.

UFO’s, the Bible and the coming great deception

These extraterrestrial fallen angels are setting us up for the coming great deception where those people left behind when the body of Christ is caught up to be with Him in the air during the harpazo (rapture) will believe that those who have suddenly vanished were abducted by UFOs. It fits in perfectly with our popular culture’s ongoing fascination with books and movies about UFOs and extraterrestrial life and our likewise disdain for anything smacking of self righteous, judgmental or religious insincerity. People will more readily believe that millions of suddenly missing persons have been abducted by UFOs than that they are in the clouds with Jesus, especially if the skies are filled with UFOs at the time.

Many people also want to believe in an extraterrestrial savior who will come and save them from wars and plagues and global warming and mostly from themselves. Some have been told by these entities that Jesus was an extraterrestrial or a heavenly angel. That is the connection between Jesus and UFOs that is so critical to understand. The Bible says that if an angel from heaven (extraterrestrial) should preach to you a gospel contrary to that we have preached to you let them be accursed (Galatians 1:8). If these extraterrestrial, fallen angels try and tell you things that run contrary to the Bible, beware of them because they are false Christs (Matthew 24:24). This entire UFO phenomenon is about deception and misdirection and cover-up, but to a more sinister extent that most people realize including the government?

The Roman Bishop and early Christian martyr, Ignatius, said that the devil bewitches his victims before he destroys them. I believe in UFOs and extraterrestrials. I do not believe that I am either delusional or hallucinating. I believe that the government is covering up these phenomena even though they are as deceived as to its origins as are most people. I write for UFO Digest, not only because of the generosity and good will of the Publisher, Dirk Vander Ploeg, but because I share with all of you a deep yearning to understand and explain this phenomenon.

As I have written before, the Bible speaks about the interaction between extraterrestrials and earth women. The Sons of God saw the daughters of men were beautiful and took wives for themselves (Genesis 6:2). They begat children, the Nephilim, who were on the earth in those days and also afterward (Genesis 6:4). Modern day Bible scholars like W.F. Albright and F.J.Dake and John Walvoord and many others believe in the fallen angel concept. Jewish apocryphal writers of the Apocalypse of Baruch and The Testament of the Twelve Patriarchs as well as early Jewish theologians like Philo of Alexandria and early Christian theologians like Justin Martyr, Iranaeus, Tertullian, Eusebius, Ambrose and the Anti Nicene Fathers also believed that these angels (the Sons of God) had fallen into impure love of virgins and were subjugated by the flesh and begat children.

Don’t let people tell you that early Jews and Christians believed these Sons of God in Genesis to be the sons of Seth and therefore human. Josephus, the Jewish historian of 2000 years ago, wrote in his Antiquities of the Jews about these fallen angels and women. In 1947 when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered by an Arab boy at Qumran, there appeared the Genesis Apocryphon manuscript which was written in the 2nd century BC and spoke also about celestial beings from the skies that had come to earth and mated with human females. These hybrid children were called Nephilim in Genesis 6:4 which were mistranslated by King James to mean giants. The Hebrew word derives from the root naphal which means fallen. The Greek Septuagint translation of the Old Testament called them gegenes which means earthborn and is probably where the English word giants came from.

The Bible goes on to say that these angels who did not keep their domain but abandoned their proper abode (the heavenlies), God has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day because they went after strange flesh (human) and they are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire (Jude 6-7). God did not spare these angels when they sinned but cast them into hell and committed them to the pits of darkness (Tarturus) reserved for judgment (2Peter 2:4).

That is why God brought the Flood to wipe out all vestiges of these hybrid Nephilim. Noah and his sons and their wives had preserved their pedigree and kept themselves pure in spite of the prevailing corruption brought about by the fallen angels (Oxford Companion Bible). In other words, Noah’s bloodline had remained free of genetic contamination (Genesis 6:9). Noah and his family kept the human DNA pure and preserve the coming bloodline of Jesus, while the fallen angels who had perpetrated these blasphemies and attempted to corrupt the human bloodline of Jesus were kept in eternal bondage and chains in the pits of darkness.

The Nephilim appeared again in Numbers 13:33 and that is why God told Joshua to kill all the Canaanites-men, women and children. He again wanted to keep the bloodline, the DNA, pure. Thus fallen angels must have continued for a time to breed with human females. While I do not know if there are any Nephilim present on the earth today, I believe that there are fallen angels roaming about to continue to deceive us humans.

The non canonical book of Enoch, while not a part of the Bible, is quoted verbatim in Jude 14-15 concerning the return of the Lord to execute judgment upon all. The Book of Enoch speaks of fallen angels as Watchers (as does Daniel 4:17) and says that the worst was Azazel. Azazel is the name of the fallen angel in both of my novels, The Great Harpazo Deception and Invasion: Israel.

Later and most importantly, in the three days between His crucifixion and His physical resurrection from the dead, after Christ had died for sins once and for all, for the just and the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, Christ also went and made a proclamation to these spirits (fallen angels) now in prison who once were disobedient in the days of Noah. He proclaimed His triumph over them and over sin, death, hell, and Satan (1Peter 3:18-20). When He had disarmed the rulers (fallen angels), He made a public display of them having triumphed over them (Colossians 2:15).

This is significant because Christ told His followers that just as it happened in the days of Noah, so shall it be also when the Son of Man is revealed (returns) (Luke 17:26, 30). Today in our world, we have goings on much like there was then including a great deal of sin and debauchery and possibly chasing after strange flesh by fallen angels (extraterrestrials). Look at all the immorality like pedophilia and child abductions as well as all of the UFO sightings, alien abductions and the cases of alien human hybrid experiments, and you will see a return to the days of Noah when the Sons of God (fallen angel extraterrestrials) mated with the daughters of men. You will know that the Lord is about to reappear very soon and take His own to be with Him in the clouds while all hell breaks loose here on earth. The sudden disappearance of millions will be explained as abduction by UFOs. We have been conditioned, programmed if you will, to believe such lies by the great Deceiver himself, Satan and his minions of fallen angels (extraterrestrials).

This is also important because demons (fallen angels) tremble at the name of Jesus (James 2:19). God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above all names (Philippians 2:9). At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow of those on the earth (us) and those under the earth (fallen angels) and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10). Next time you are confronted by an extraterrestrial (”alien”) who is trying to abduct you just call out the name of Jesus and it will leave. I did it when I was confronted by demons who wanted to harm me and it worked. The name of Jesus is a powerful name above all other names.

In conclusion, all that I am trying to say is that this UFO phenomenon is real and is an important part of the end time’s fulfillment of Scripture. Do not be deceived by these cunning fallen angels who would love nothing more than to lead you smiling to the pits of hell with them.

He loves everyone so much that He sent His only begotten Son to die for everyone’s sins and give everyone who believes eternal life (John 3:16). He wants everyone’s eyes opened to the ultimate spirituality of this UFO phenomenon and for everyone to realize that Jesus is their Savior not some extraterrestrial, fallen angel, antichrist, demon. “We struggle not against flesh and blood (extraterrestrial aliens) but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places (extraterrestrial fallen angels)” (Ephesians 6:12).

New World Order

Lucifer, the supposed illuminator of mankind, also has a secret plan in the earthly sphere for world domination that has been handed down through the centuries within occult societies. According to Masonic sources, the most important Mystery of secret societies is an ancient plan, passed down for thousands of years by oral tradition, for the establishment of a world government – a “universal democracy” – a “New Atlantis.”

This New “World Order” as it is commonly called, is the concept of a model society with an “enlightened” world government. In this model, Christianity and religion is subsumed into the philosophy and illumination of the Mysteries. There are two variants: one is the New Age Movement, which seeks a one-world religion and social order based on a revival of the Mysteries; another is radical atheism, which seeks the destruction of all outward religion in a Communist society.

Relevant to this is the ancient legend of the lost continent Atlantis (see video: America’s Secret New Beginnings: The New Atlantis), in which there existed a model society in complete harmony ruled over by seven kings; another three kings in the Atlantean league ruled over Europe, Asia and Africa. The league was broken when the seven kings of Atlantis decided to conquer the other three continents. For this act the gods supposedly destroyed Atlantis in a flood. However, a closer look shows that the legend is a corruption of the Genesis Flood. This is a common Babylonish practice to link gods to perverted versions of Noah’s Flood. The Atlantis legend also has a strange similarity to the description in Revelation of the beast with seven heads and ten horns that rose out of the sea. (Rev 13:1) and to the ten horns in Daniel’s vision (Dan 7:24).

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato recorded the Atlantean legend. He got his information from Solon, an older writer who learnt of the legend from the priests of the Temple of Isis in Egypt. Further elements of the legend have also been preserved through occult societies and Freemasonry. It is versions of this Atlantean model of society which the occult societies and Freemasonry have sought to re-establish. Plato’s principles of philosophy and his model republic based on the Communist principles of common property, are also expressions of this model society.

What To Make Of The Insider Selling?

Bloomberg files this report on the recent rise of insider selling, company executives dumping the most shares since mid-2007, shortly before the broad stock market’s peak.

Executives at U.S. companies are taking advantage of the biggest stock-market rally in 71 years to sell their shares at the fastest pace since credit markets started to seize up two years ago.

Insiders of Standard & Poor’s 500 Index companies were net sellers for 14 straight weeks as the gauge rose 36 percent, data compiled by InsiderScore.com show.

Sales by CEOs, directors and senior officers have accelerated to the highest level since June 2007, two months before credit markets froze, as the S&P 500 rebounded from its 12-year low in March. The increase is making investors more skittish because executives presumably have the best information about their companies’ prospects.Surely this can’t be a good development for your typical retail investor, many of whom have just recently convinced themselves that it’s OK to put some money back into stocks again.

The good news is that the 2007 stock market peak didn’t occur until some four months after insider selling peaked in June. Here we are, almost exactly two years later, and it appears that the timing could be again aligned for a fall season that does not treat equity markets kindly.

Why is insider selling so important? It’s quite simple…

“If insiders are selling into the rally, that shows they don’t expect their business to be able to support current stock- price levels,” said Joseph Keating, the chief investment officer of Raleigh, North Carolina-based RBC Bank, the unit of Royal Bank of Canada that oversees $33 billion in client assets. “They’re taking advantage of this bounce and selling into it.”

“They’re looking to take some money off the table because they think the rally will come to an end,” said Ben Silverman, the Seattle-based research director at InsiderScore. “It’s the most bearish we’ve seen insiders, on a whole, in two years.”

The last time there were more U.S. corporations with executives reducing their holdings than adding to them was during the week ended June 19, 2007, the data show. The next month, two Bear Stearns Cos. hedge funds filed for bankruptcy protection as securities linked to subprime mortgages fell apart, helping trigger almost $1.5 trillion in losses and writedowns at the world’s biggest financial companies and the 57 percent drop in the S&P 500 from Oct. 9, 2007, to March 9, 2009.

There’s much more information in the report about stock sales at individual companies, but, perhaps the most important detail is that insider selling reached an all-time record back in the first quarter of 2000, as the 18-year bull market in stocks reached its climax, the official demarcation point between “dotcom” and “dotbomb”.

GCN’s Alexander (Emerick) Jones – Liars, Shill and Deceivers

Alexander Emerick Jones is an American paleoconservativeradio host and documentary filmmaker. His nationally syndicated talk show (titled The Alex Jones Show) airs via the Genesis Communication Network on over 60 AM, FM, and Short Wave radio stations across the United States, as well as having a large internet based audience. Alex Jones has been referred to as a “conspiracy theorist” by mainstream media outlets, while Russia Today has referred to him as an investigative journalist. Alex Jones was born February 11, 1974.

The elite put Alex Jones in place to be the leader and symbol of the alternative media.

Alex Jones repeatedly attacks the idea that TV Fakery was used on 9/11. It has become obvious to serious investigators of 9-11 that no airplanes were used in the attack. Is Alex Jones naive to catch on, or is he deliberately covering up evidence that links the mainstream media to 9-11?

Indeed, Alex Jones would appear to have a clear motive for wanting to cover up the media’s role in 9-11. His network, GCN Live, has close ties to ABC News. In fact, ABC NY provides satellite broadcasting services for The Alex Jones Show. Some say that this is only a business deal, and is not very important… but think about it — why would part of the controlled media provide satellites to a network that was dangerous to them?

This is easily explained by considering that Alex Jones is not really on the side of real truth. His job is to distract us from following the most important people in the world… the Jesuits.

ABC is owned by Walt Disney, which has had a Jesuit priest on it’s board of directors since 1996. This brings us to the question of why Jones is seemingly reluctant to talk about the role of the Society of Jesus in world corruption.

When Alex Jones released his famous “Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove” film, he gave us detailed background information about the Grove, yet, for some reason he left out the fact that Roman Catholic masses take place at the Grove, and that the Bohemian Club’s patron saint is John of Nepomuk, a Roman Catholic figure who symbolizes the Seal of Confession. The story of John of Nepomuk was developed by Bohuslav Balbín, a Jesuit.

Alex Alex Jones’ suspicious connections do not end there. He has close ties with the John Birch Society. His father was a member of JBS and he had it’s President, John F. McManus, on his show. McManus was trained by Jesuits at Holy Cross College and was involved in US Air Force Weapons Development.

We all know I have been warning of this bear market rally. I know it has been a rough ride, but at the end of the day, a dollar is a dollar and a loss is a loss. I do hope nobody is surprised. This may not even be the end of the bear market rally, but the internals have been looking weak for the last week or two, and we all know how I felt about the fundamentals and the macro outlook.

Fears for financial system cut risk appetite

ECB warning prompts shift from equities. Risk appetite suffered a sharp deterioration on Monday as fresh uncertainty about the global economy and the financial system prompted investors to shift away from equities, commodities and emerging market assets into the perceived safety of government bonds and the dollar.

Eurozone banks face $283bn writedowns

ECB says risks to sector intensifying.

Eurozone banks face additional losses of more than $283bn this year and next as continental Europe’s severe recession intensifies strains on its financial sector, the European Central Bank has warned.

The fates of the eurozone economy and its banks have become increasingly interlinked, the ECB reported on Monday in its latest “financial stability review” with banks losses expected to be focused on their loan exposures. Risks to the stability of the financial sector remained high, it said, while “uncertainty prevails” over the shock-absorbing capacity of the banking system.

From WSJ’s Market Beat:

Rochdale Research analyst Richard Bove’s weekend note on Bank of America got a bit of attention today, largely for the section in which he writes “Bank of America is now experiencing horrific loan losses. It may have loan loss provisions of $46 billion this year.”

As Jon Ogg over at 24/7 Wall Street notes, the core call of the note is surprisingly positive. Bove upped his price target on Bank of America shares to $19 from $14, citing growing confidence in management. Bove also kept his “Buy” rating on the stock and wrote that Bank of America’s purchase of Merrill Lynch — and even Countrywide — will help it offset the losses it’s suffering on loans.

Concerning those losses, Bove has a couple interesting observations as to why Bank of America’s loan losses may be more pronounced than some competitors:

A key to the company’s success in driving its operating costs lower has been the implementation of automated systems and uniform products. The reduction in labor intensity in the process has carried with it a reduction in the personalized approach to lending.

The credit card industry or auto lending are examples of this process. Credit card loans are in fact personal loans that historically were provided after a customer spoke with a loan officer who generally knew the client’s background. Now the bank provides the loans to people it has never met and never interacted with using a systemized process. This is also true of automobile loans and in many cases of mortgages and home equity lines of credit.

These systems, now many decades old, are widely supported by consumers and have combined to lower the cost of originating loans and in increasing loan volumes. The problem with these systems is that they fail to detect changes in the borrower’s condition until losses start to appear. Then it is generally too late so that losses soar before the bank gains control of the process once again.
This is now happening throughout the industry and to a greater degree at Bank of America.

Countrywide is a veritable boiling cauldron of putrid assets and potentially devastating liabilities that are actually labeled as assets. Merrill Lynch was collapsing under its own weight in real time and BofA needed government assistance to close the deal. Bove says that these companies will help offset the losses it (BofA) is suffering on its loans, but the loans it is suffering from stem largely in part from Merrill and Countrywide. Circular logic moving in an ovular pattern????

Europe Is Being Held Together With Duct Tape

Among its many other sins, the greenback is a press hog. The world’s reserve currency, loved and loathed as it is, simply gets most of the ink these days.

In that light many a U.S.-based commentator, not least your cynical Taipan Daily scribes, have repeatedly waxed eloquent on the long-run death of the dollar.

But in our zeal we sometimes forget that, in order for the dollar to die, it has to die relative to other fiat currency offerings… and some of those others are looking pretty sick too. (The main exception, of course, being gold – the one and only “stateless currency” not subject to the whims of a printing press. As Grant’s Interest Rate Observer quips, “Show us a monetary asset whose value is not subject to governmental debasement and we will show you a Krugerrand.”)

In short, the dollar is not the only basket case out there. Take the euro, for example. Now there’s a troubled currency if ever one existed.

As pollyanna stock market bulls are finding out the hard way, rising interest rates (via falling bond prices) can have ugly consequences. The same is true of a rising currency when coupled with a weak economic backdrop.

In this particular case, the stronger the euro gets, the more it cuts into European export sales. At a time when most all of Europe is sick, the economic pain of a too-strong currency becomes intense above a certain threshold.

On top of that, various bits of Europe are in the process of blowing up… or falling apart… or both. There is deep trouble brewing in multiple corners of the continent. Let’s take a quick look on a country-by-country basis to see why Europe is being held together with duct tape.

Britain on the Brink

We’ll start with Britain – not an adopter of the euro, but a member of the EU (European Union) nonetheless.

June 03, 2009 “Information Clearing House” — Last week’s ructions in the bond market, leave little doubt that the financial crisis has entered a new and more lethal phase. Of particular concern is the spike in long-term Treasuries which are used to set interest rates on mortgages and other loans. On Thursday, the average rate for a 30-year fixed loan jumped from 5.03% to 5.44% in just two days. The sudden move put the mortgage market in a panic and stopped the refinancing of billions of dollars in loans. The yields on Treasuries are going up because investors see hopeful signs of recovery in the economy and are moving into riskier investments. More money is moving into equities which is why the stock markets have been surging lately. (The Federal Reserve’s multi-trillion dollar monetary stimulus has played a large part, as well.) The bottom line is that investors are looking for better returns than the paltry yields on government debt. That will make it harder for the Fed to sell up to $3 trillion in Treasuries in the next year to finance Obama’s proposed economic recovery plan. For now, foreign central banks are still buying enough short-term Treasuries to cover the current account deficit, but that could change in a flash, especially given Fed chief Bernanke’s propensity to print more money at the drop of a hat. That’s making foreign holders of dollar-based assets more jittery than ever.

Bernanke is in a bit of a pickle. He needs to sell boatloads of US debt, but if he raises interest rates; he’ll kill the recovery and send the stock market reeling. What to do? Eventually the Fed chief will arrive at the conclusion that there’s only two ways out of a credit bust of this magnitude; either raise rates and crush the economy or print more money and face a funding crisis. Either way, there’s a world of hurt ahead.
